2025: Tight Ends

Tyler Warren – TE – Penn State – 95

Does a Dallas Clark comp make me an old guy? Warren’s got a big frame but can play like a move tight end. He’s not physically imposing but will mix it up enough in the running game that he can fill the Y role. Certainly, I like him a lot, but if he’s bringing T.J. Hockenson or Trey McBride impact, how do you value that? Last year with Brock Bowers I made the case that tight ends in the top ten never work out. Warren may be the surest thing in this draft, but I don’t see the ceiling for his game so I put him in the middle of the first round. That sounds like I’m down on him which is not true, just being realistic about what his top end value can be.

Colston Loveland - TE – Michigan – 89

Great length and athletic ability. Reminds me of Luke Musgraves a couple years ago. Can be a great target in the seams and running crossers. Lacks the physicality at this point to separate with strength, and he’s not a plus blocker.

Mason Taylor – TE – LSU – 87

The family ties run strong here. Dad = Jason Taylor. Uncle = Zach Thomas. You can tell the actual blood relation is Jason Taylor cuz this kid has the height and athleticism you want at tight end. Mason produced all 3 seasons at LSU and is still 20 years old. He’s got room to grow into his body and gifts, and to refine his craft at tight end. I like the Dallas Goedart comparison – great height and athleticism, narrow but strong. If he blossoms in the NFL like his Dad did, watch out.

Elijah Arroyo – TE – Miami – 86

Prospects like this are why I love scouting. Arroyo burst onto the scene in 2024 with Cam Ward slinging dimes and he could’ve been lost in the shuffle if that didn’t happen. He’s got the height, reach, and hand size you want but still moves well both with and without the ball. We’ve got a ball of clay here that can turn into Dalton Schulz, Dalton Kincaid, or Dalton Keene. Look, Miami has a great history of producing tight ends, but there have also been some duds. This kid could go either way, but I’m betting on him in the top half of round 2.

Terrance Ferguson – TE – Oregon – 72

He’s got the size and speed that you’re looking for even if he never ran more than a 5 yard route. He’s worth a try in the third round because you can’t teach 6’5” running a 4.6 and jumping 39 inches. Ferguson was productive in the passing game but useless as a blocker. That being said, I like him as a big swing for someone. After watching Oregon this year, I was really hoping the other tight end was the one coming out. Kenyon Sadiq, I got my eye on you.

Luke Lachey – TE – Iowa – 62

Standing rule, I scout all Iowa tight ends. Dad joke: Lachey is lacking. I can finally make Dad jokes without entering full cringe mode. Look, he was involved in the Hawkeye offense as tight ends always are, but he’s lacking both the traits and production you want to see. So take a flier but I don’t think this ticket will cash.
