2010 NFL Draft: Safeties
Eric Berry—Tenn—One of my favorite players in the draft. A guy I would be stunned if he were a bust. Tremendous athleticism-great great hips, could probably play cb but his playmaking ability, size and tackling make him an ideal safety in the current passing NFL. I would take him any time after 3 I could give a shit if your not supposed to do that for a FS. I think this is definitely the best safety class at the top end Ive ever seen. Berry is the man
Earl Thomas—Texas—1st—He is the type of player that grows on people. You hear ppl evaluate him as better than Berry cuz of his playmaking ability and I thought it was cuz of his 8 picks and that sometimes can be a misleading stat, but his tape is outstanding. The guy flys around at all times, he looks like Bob Sanders when people have the ball and he has the ability to fly to them and get them on the ground, but when the ball is in the air he’s all over it, great hands, instincts, I really really like him another guy I wanna know how he’s doing in 3 years, Michael Huff’s shitting the bed in the pros scares me though
Taylor Mays—USC—6’3”-230-1st-2nd—Measurables, Ive been following this dude since he was a frosh at USC and he’s still impressive running a 4.4 at that size. However I don’t know how he fits in the NFL. He doesn’t flip the hips fluidly or come out of his breaks like a 1st round safety should. He can be an absolutely dominant special teams player, and can be the most feared safety in the NFL, but it all depends on how things play out, I wouldn’t take him before pick 40.
Nate Allen—USF—6’0”-207—2nd day—A lot to like about him, team captain, high school qb, he is athletic and reads the offense well. Feels comfortable in zone and will be a FS in the pros. Good size good speed. He is a playmaker who is ok against the run with room to improve. I like him as a player and might give Mays a run for his money as the next safety off the board
Morgan Burnett—GT—6’1”—209—2nd day—definitely the 5th safety prospect in the draft. He has good measureables and was fairly productive. But a guy with his size speed has to do better. He plays the run well and is bigger than Allen and Thomas but not nearly as productive. A projection type player here
