2021: Defensive Line

Levi Onwurzurike-DT-Washington-6’3”-290-1st Round-92

Late bloomer who didn’t hit the field until his 3rd year for the Huskies. Levi opted out of 2020 after an all-conference season in 2019 and as a consequence he enters the NFL at age 23. Levi should not gain any weight to reach the 300lb standard at defensive tackle because he might lose his potent foot speed. He’s an explosive interior player who beats offensive lineman on their heels. He played all along the defensive line at Washington, most notably at nose tackle which will not continue. But he can contribute inside and out and has the ability to be a 3 down defensive player with disruption ability in every situation. The Sheldon Richardson comparisons fit for playing style.

Christian Barmore-DT-Alabama-6’4”-310-1st Round-91

Large, downhill defensive tackle with versatility in defensive front alignment. Barmore has big strong hands and tremendous push to collapse the pocket. The Marcell Dareus comparisons don’t fit for me because Dareus had exceptional feet and some pass rush moves. Barmore has an elite bull rush but not much else. He’s a handful for sure, but needs to develop more breadth to his game particularly controlling the blocker and making a read. Barmore also has concerns around his effort level and is highly unlikely to be a 70% snap count player. He’s a young prospect with limited onfield experience for the Tide, but he has the tools to be a difference maker. I think a Michael Brockers comparison is more realistic comparison.
